How is the lighting powered?
The Chat Light will be powered by your USB connection.
Will the light distort wash out the screen?
Absolutely not. The light is directed away from the screen onto the face of the video chat user, and does not interfere with screen.
Will the lighting really make a difference?
Yes, without a doubt the light will improve your appearance while video chatting. It is very similar to the way we use a flash on a camera. Our Chat Light is best used in situation with challenging lighting conditions. That is to say, they are less effective when your ambient light situation is good, in which case the Chat Light will serve as a “fill” light.
Are there other ways to light oneself on Video Chat?
The most effective light for video chatting is natural light positioned correctly. The ideal light would be a when the user is positioned by a bright, non direct window, facing outwards. In this way the bright natural light is illuminating your face evenly without any shadows.
Below is a list of lighting situations that you should try to avoid:
1) Stay away from fluorescence lighting directly above your head.
2) Try to avoid bright direct sunlight.
3) Stay away from low wattage desk lamps, etc.
4) Don't use the screen's luminosity is a very weak light source that tends to make the user look either blue or green in skin tone.
Is the monitor, or screen light that emanates enough to illuminate?
Not a good choice unless the room is entirely dark, in which case the screen will illuminate your face OK, but again your skin is going to take on the ghostly green, blue or yellow tonality of screen luminosity. Furthermore, the low wattage/lumens that a typical screen projects will mean that your webcam client to work harder to find focus, thus resulting in amore blurry, and choppy reception.
What’s the advantage of a Chat Light versus table lamps?
The Chat Light is designed to project the optimal amount of light, that is based on studio photography equipment such as ring-lights, and Kino-flos. The Chat Light allows your face to be recorded in a more flattering tone than a desk lamp which tends to make you look orange or yellow. The Chat Light also has a surround-effect which helps create an even light cast and thus avoids shadows that make your imperfections look worse etc. The lighting emanating from our video chat is also diffused to soften the effect on your skin, thus making for a more pleasing appearance while chatting.
Would a good quality webcam solve the problem?
It does not matter how good your web cam is, the primary foundation of a good image is the lighting, not the lens. If there is insufficient lighting, even a good lens will battle to find focus and clarity. A good lens does not fix bad quality light.
Will the Chat Light fit my screen?
Glowzi will be offering a universal Chat Light, that will fit most screens and tablets.
How does it attach to the screen?
There are various options depending on the model you choose, some are magnets, some adjustable clips and others are built in the tablet case.
Why are the LED lights not built directly into the monitors?
Glowzi's Patent covers the building in of LED's into monitors, laptops and other communication terminals. At this point, we have not given out the licensing rights to any computer companies.
